National Organizations Program

ATSDR conducts many public health education and health promotion activities through collaborative projects and partnerships with national organizations of health professionals. These activities increase knowledge of environmental medicine and public health issues for the participating organization members and help them address the public health concerns of the people they serve. As of October 1,1999, ATSDR reaches more than 80,000 health professionals through its funding of the following 10 national organizations:

American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN)

AAOHN works through its members nationwide to advance the profession of occupational and environmental health nursing.

American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

AAP is an organization of 55,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.

American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT)

ACMT is a professional organization for board-certified toxicologists, who play a major role in poison control centers, inpatient and outpatient medical care facilities, medical school, private industry, and government agencies.

American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM)

ACPM is a national professional society for physicians who are committed to disease prevention and health promotion. ACPM’s 2,000 members are engaged in preventive medicine practice, teaching, and research.

Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC)

AOEC founded in 1987, is a network of 65 clinics and approximately 300 individual health professionals committed to improving the practice of occupational and environmental medicine through information sharing and collaborative research.

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)

ASTHO includes the leaders of state and territorial health agencies. ASTHO’s members formulate and influence sound national health policy and develop and implement state programs and policies to promote health, prevent illness and disability, and improve quality of life.

National Alliance for Hispanic Health (NAHH)

NAHH serves Hispanic communities nationwide through its membership of thousands of front-line health providers and organizations. NAHH fulfills its mission by working with community-based organizations; universities; federal, state, and local governments; foundations; and corporations.

Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN)

MCN is a national grassroots organization of primary care providers including physicians, nurses dentists, outreach workers, and other care providers. Established in 1984 to address issues that affect the health status of migrant and seasonal farm workers, it is now the largest clinical network working with under-served populations in the United States.

National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
