First we are aiming to provide one location for Tribal CHRs to locate program information, obtain program and staff resources and to connect national CHR programs, associations and staff. The National CHR Education Conference, Celebrating 40 Years as the Foundation of Care in Native Communities held July 28-31, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The theme of the conference was CHRs Make A Difference. The following individuals and groups were recognized by the IHS National CHR Program.
Mary Alice Trapp, RN at the Native WEB Native American Programs at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, received a national award from the IHS Headquarters CHR Program.
It is with great pride that the IHS National Community Health Program recognizes the Blackfeet Tribe’s CHR Program for its exemplary service to patients and community through collaboration and partnerships.

Greetings all. IHS HQ CHR Program is updating the way in which we train CHR Basic this year. We will conduct only 2 (two) CHR Basic courses during FY 2009. One of those will be a traditional two-week classroom setting and the other will be blended education – a combination of online modules and traditional classroom setting.

When you have had enough of life’s HARD KNOCKS and are completely tired

SPACES with a CHR! First the 3-week BOOT CAMP they call Basic Training isn’t
just for any AVERAGE JOE while the Leadership Course will teach you the truth
of FEAR FACTOR with the leap of faith, and remember there is no FAKING IT. You
probably won’t know WHAT NOT TO WEAR because your BIG FAT OBNOXIOUS BOSS
will have a list of HOUSE RULES. You will always be in THE AMAZING RACE to get
to your next client, then you will find out there has been a WIFE SWAP. At times
you may feel like you are THE BIGGEST LOSER. You may be wondering if it is FOR
LOVE OR MONEY that CHRs work, but looking at their average salary, you will know
it is THE ULTIMATE LOVE TEST and they will never be THE BILLIONAIRE, but in their
communities the are THE AMERICAN Indian IDOL. However, though there may be several
WEAKEST LINKS in the administration that you would love to call NANNY 911 on
you have to trust that they will all retire some day on GILLIGAN’S ISLAND.
So instead of going for an EXTREME MAKEOVER, enjoy the SIMPLE LIFE, because to
be a CHR you need to be a SURVIVOR!
