U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
Release Date: 1996
The USPSTF recognizes the importance of this public health issue and
the burden that youth violence has on a community. However, based on the currently
available evidence, the USPSTF believes the potential impact of a new USPSTF
recommendation on counseling in the primary care setting on reducing youth
violence is limited. The USPSTF will not update its 1996 recommendation. The
USPSTF has previously reviewed the evidence on family violence, drug and alcohol
use, and suicide prevention.
The CDC's Community Guide has published
recommendations on preventing violence to which the clinician may want to refer.
The methods of evidence review by the Community Guide may differ from the methods
of the USPSTF. The Web site for the CDC's Community Guide for Preventive
Services is http://www.thecommunityguide.org.
