Studies show that people do better when they keep track of their progress. Use the Eat Smart. Play Hard.™ Tracking Card to keep track of all your nutrition and
physical activity goals each week. You’ll be surprised at how it helps you stay motivated!
A word about goal setting:
Setting the right goals is an important first step. The most productive areas to focus on are the dietary and
physical activity changes that will lead to healthy eating
and physical activity behaviors.
Effective goals are 1) specific (focused); 2) attainable (can be achieved); and 3) forgiving (less than perfect). "Exercise more" is a great idea, but it's not specific. "Walk five miles everyday" is specific and measurable, but is it attainable if you 're just starting out? “Walk 30 minutes every day” is more attainable, but what happens if you're held up at work one day and there's a thunderstorm during your walking time another day? "Walk 30 minutes, five days each week" is specific, attainable, and forgiving. In short, a great goal!
On the Eat Smart. Play Hard. ™ Tracking Card
set personal nutrition and physical activity goals for each
week. Future physical activity goals can be to increase the
amount of time spent performing a physical activity or by
adding additional physical activities to the Eat Smart. Play
Hard. ™ Tracking Card. Remember, the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans recommendation for adults is at
least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on
most, preferably all, days of the week.
