F. F. (Russ) Knapp, Jr., Ph.D.
Corporate Fellow, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
Manager, Nuclear Medicine Program
Nuclear Science and Technology Division

Dr. Knapp is formally trained as a biochemist and joined ORNL in the Biomedical Radioisotope Group in 1975 after completing postdoctoral training at Rice University and the University of Liverpool. He has headed the Nuclear Medicine Program since 1977. His research interest currently focus on the development and preclinical and clinical evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals with applications in nuclear medicine, oncology and interventional cardiology; reactor production and processing of medical radioisotopes; radionuclide generator development; and the use of radiotracers to evaluate gene-induced changes in metabolism effected by insulin sensitizing drugs in animal models of Type II diabetes.
