The New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities has produced a voting guide for people with developmental disabilities and other voters. The guide—which lays out in clear language what voting is, why it’s important and how to do it—was developed with significant input from voters with developmental disabilities from Cumberland County.

The guide will be distributed statewide for this upcoming election season.

For additional information contact the Council offices at 609.292.3745 or mail to: njcdd@njcdd.org

NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities Offers Emergency Preparedness Seminars - September is National Preparedness Month

Trenton, NJ. – To kick off National Preparedness Month the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities is presenting emergency preparedness training seminars for people with developmental disabilities. The first group of trainings will be provided to people who live in group homes and supervised apartments.

Held each September, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross to encourage individuals to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies.

Jane Dunhamn, Training Coordinator for Emergency Preparedness at the Council, says “it shouldn’t take another great tragedy to remind us how important it is to be prepared for any emergency.”

Getting Ready for an Emergency

Throughout September, people with developmental disabilities can learn how they can best prepare for emergencies. The training consists of a half day class. By taking the time to develop a disaster plan, assemble a supply kit and put together a Go Bag, individuals will be better prepared when an emergency strikes. The Council will provide Go Bags, supply kits and training materials.

Here’s How

Trainers will travel to participants at locations designated by Provider Agencies. Please contact Jane Dunhamn or Frank Latham at 609-292-3745.
