Timely Completion of Degree
Ph.D. (with M.S.) - no more than four calendar years
Ph.D. (w/o M.S.) - no more than five calendar years
M.S. - no more than three calendar years

  1. Admission Requirements:
    All admission requirements as outlined in your official letter of admissions from the Graduate School must be met BEFORE a Plan of Study may be filed.
  2. Organize Advisory Committee:
    Submitted to the department on the Graduate Advisory Committee Report of Annual Research Conference form (department Form 1), prior to beginning second semester of study.
  3. Establish Advisory Committee:
    Submitted on the P.O.S., established during first semester of study.
  4. Plan of Study (P.O.S.):
    Initiated during the first semester of study, submitted for approval during the second semester following the student's arrival, once admission requirements have been met.

    * The POS is completed by the student via SSINFO, once the plan is finalized; submit the plan for final approval.

    * Required coursework: Statistics, ENTM 612 – Responsible Conduct in Research, ENTM 690- Seminar

  5. Thesis Style Format:
    Submitted during the second semester following student's arrival. A department Form 2 is filed declaring thesis style format.
  6. Graduate Advisory Committee Report of Annual Research Conference:
    Advisory Committee is required to meet at least annually. A department Form 1 is filed and signed by the committee members.
  7. Research Proposal:
    Submitted during second semester following student's arrival.
  8. Seminar Program:
    A methods seminar presentation is required before scheduling the Final Exam. Students will register for ENTM 690 for 1 credit, pass/fail during the semester in which the methods seminar will be presented.
  9. Exams:
    Final and preliminary exams must be completed at least one week before the last day of classes of the semester in which the degree is to be awarded. (Exams cannot be scheduled during "dead week").
  10. Preliminary Exam (PhD only):
    Submit request at least two weeks prior to exam date. Request is filed on G.S. Form 8.

    * It is the students' responsibility to reserve a meeting room and schedule the event on the department head's calendar, through the main office secretary, before processing the form 8.
  11. Thesis:
    A final draft of the thesis must be given to the committee members at least two weeks prior to the final exam.
  12. Final Exam (PhD):
    At least two complete semesters must pass after the Preliminary Exam; submit request at least two weeks prior to exam date. Request is filed on G.S. Form 8.

    * It is the students' responsibility to reserve a meeting room and schedule the event on the department head's calendar, through the main office secretary, before processing the form 8.
  13. Final Exam (M.S.):
    Submit request two weeks prior to exam date. Request is filed on G.S. Form 8.

    * It is the students' responsibility to reserve a meeting room and schedule the event on the department head's calendar, through the main office secretary, before processing the form 8.
  14. Thesis Deposit & Thesis Receipt:
    Thesis must be delivered to the Library Thesis Deposit Office before the end of the last day of classes during the semester in which the degree is to be awarded. Call 4-2905 to make an appointment. G.S. Form 16 (not available online, must pick up in-person from the graduate school)must be delivered to the Graduate School before the end of the first working day following the last day of classes.

Dec. 12, 2008 All master's and Ph.D. candidates must submit their theses/dissertations via Electronic Thesis Deposit (ETD), as well as turn in all required forms at their mandatory, scheduled, final deposit appointment in the Thesis/Dissertation Office, Room 170, Young Hall (YONG).

Master's and Ph.D. candidates with "Confidential" theses/dissertations must also submit their departmental copies to the Graduate School. Deposit appointments can be made by calling 765-494-2600, or email gradinfo@purdue.edu.
Fall 2008 Graduation Deadlines
Dec. 20, 2008 (Last day of session)
Doctoral students must have taken preliminary examinations by this date to be eligible for December 2009 graduation (assuming student registered Spring 2009 and Summer 2009).
