Announcement:
Release of Public Comments on Draft Strategic Plan
December 21, 2005
The multi-agency U.S. Climate Change Technology Program (CCTP) today announces the posting of all public comments and related supplemental documents received during the public review and comment period on the CCTP Draft Strategic Plan.
The CCTP Draft Strategic Plan was released for public review and comment on September 22, 2005. The Plan, when completed, will provide strategic direction and help organize, for all participating Federal agencies, a portfolio of about $3 billion annually in Federal technology research, development, demonstration and deployment. This portfolio is aimed at developing advanced technologies that will enable and facilitate the reduction, avoidance, capture and/or sequestration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (GHGs), while simultaneously stimulating and sustaining economic growth.
The CCTP received 295 public comments from 38 reviewers. In addition, CCTP received 14 supplemental documents, submitted by the reviewers. The list of reviewers, including their organizational affiliations, the catalogued and recorded comments, and all supplemental documents are available by visiting CCTP’s public website.
The Federal Government’s technology development activities in this area that are the subject of the Draft Strategic Plan are complemented by an array of other Federal efforts to address climate change concerns. These include short-term measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity, research to advance climate change science, the promotion of international cooperation, and the support of financial incentives to spur investment in GHG-reducing technologies.
Over the course of the coming months, CCTP plans to examine and address each comment and all related supplemental documents. A completed CCTP Strategic Plan is expected to be finalized and released in 2006.
Although the public comment period is now closed, questions about the comments, the Plan, or CCTP, may be addressed in writing to: Director, U.S. Climate Change Technology Program, U.S. Department of Energy, 1000 Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, DC 20585, or by email addressed to: CCTP@hq.doe.gov.
