Uncommon winter producing “average” mountain snowpack, water expert says

SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 9, 2009) – Despite record snowfall accumulations across Washington during the past month, the statewide mountain snowpack is average for this time of the year, according to USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

2008 NRCS Farm Bill Conservation Programs

The conservation provisions in the 2008 Farm Bill will affect farmers for years to come. The new provisions build on the conservation gains made by landowners over the past decade. They simplify existing programs and create new programs to address high priority environmental protection goals.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provided a wide range of programs and services to enable Washington landowners to implement various conservation practices and management activities in fiscal year 2008 (Oct. 2007-Sept. 2008). Signatures on the Land is a two page fact sheet that provides an overview of some of Washington's conservation accomplishments made possible through NRCS' programs and services throughout the fiscal year.
