Shorty Harris
Frank "Shorty" Harris was one of the greatest, and most colorful, of the old time prospectors. Shorty was responsible for some of the region's most famous gold strikes and most famous gold rushes. Here he is in Death Valley with one of his best friends.

Badwater Basin, in Death Valley National Park, is the lowest place in North America and one of the lowest places in the world at 282 feet below sea level. The Dead Sea, between Israel and Jordon, is the lowest at 1371 feet below sea level.
