Big Flats Plant Materials Center

Big Flats Plant Materials CenterEstablished 1940

Since 1940, the Big Flats Plant Materials Center has selected plants and provided new vegetative conservation solutions for the Northeast region. The Center has released a number of conservation plants including ‘Niagara’ big bluestem, ‘Glacial Lake’ butterfly weed, ‘Keystone’ buttonbush, Glacial Lake Albany Germplasm wild lupine and ‘Golden Jubilee black-eyed Susan. The Center has developed new technology for improving forage, buffer strips, cover crops, living snow fences and windbreaks, and assisting the National Park Service with disturbed areas.
