برنامه کمک غذایی ایالات متحده : کاهش گرسنگان جهان
هم اکنون رقمی نزدیک به 850 میلیون انسان در سرتاسر دنیا از گرسنگی و سوء تغذیه رنج می‌برند. در سال 1996 رهبران اجلاس برنامه غذایی جهان متعهد شدند که رقم افراد گرسنه تا سال 2015 را به نصف تقلیل دهند. این مسئله تقریبا غیر قابل اجراست هرچند که کشاورزان اندکی بیشتر از نیاز غذایی کل دنیا تولید می‌کنند.
در جستجوى رسانه هاى آزاد و مسؤول
حمایت از توسعه رسانه های آزاد و مسئول در خارج و کمک به ایجاد زیرساخت های لازم برای فعالیت مطبوعات آزاد –زیرساخت های قانونی، استقلال مالی، شفافیت دردولت و آموزش روزنامه نگاران در تهیه گزارشهای واقعی و منصثفانه، ازدیرباز بخشی از سیاست دولت ایالات متحده بوده است. دستیابی به رسانه های آزاد و مسئول فعالیتی مستمر، پایدار، چالش برانگیز و حیاتی است. ما باید به فعالیت خود در این زمینه ادامه دهیم و کار خود را با شرایط و چالش های جدید مطبق کنیم. ما باید هدف نهائی را در نظر داشته باشیم – شهروندان قادر به تصمیم گیری های آگاهانه، تصمیم گیری هایی که به زندگی آنان شکل می دهند..
پایان دادن به بهره کشی از کار کودک
مهمترین وظیفۀ ما ایجاد جهانی امن و سالم، تا حد امکان برای کودکان، است. هنوز میلیون ها کودک در اطراف جهان قربانی فقر، بیماری، درگیری های مسلحانه و مواد منفجره و کار اجباری هستند.
ما در شماره این ماه نشريه برخی از ابتکارهای ارزشمند در دست اجراء برای مبارزه با سوء استفاده از نیروی کار کودکان را مورد بررسی قرار می دهیم. ما امیدواریم که این شماره به تعامل ما با مخاطبان کمک نماید تا درک کامل تری از مشکلات دختر جوانی که تصویر او پشت جلد نشريه آمده است، به دست آورند و از کوشش های بسیار در دست اجرا برای کمک به او و هزاران نفر از بچه های دیگر که در سراسر جهان در شرایط مشابه او قرار گرفته اند، مطلع شوند.
رویدادهای مهم در روابط خارجی ایالات متحده (1900 تا 2001)

دراین ویراست از نشریۀ الکترونیکی آمريکا تحت عنوان "مقابله با تفکر تروریستی،" نگاهی به مسئله پیچیده و جهانی تروریسم افکنده می شود. چندین پژوهشگر برجستۀ جهانی، از جمله والتر لاکور، بروس هافمن، جرالد پاست، دیوید کیلکالن، محمد حافظ، و میا بلوم؛ به بررسی انگیزه های کسانی که عامل حملات تروریستی هستنند و روش های مورد استفادۀ سازمان های تروریستی مانند القاعده برای جذب و برانگیختن آنها پرداخته اند.
فیلم در عصر حاضر
ریچارد بروکس کارگردان فقید آمریکائی معتقد است: "تصاویر پدیدار می شوند و مانند موسیقی پیش از هر چیز احساسات را به عکس العمل وا میدارند". مقبولیت فوق العاده فیلم های هالیوودی در سراسر دنیا طی صد سال اخیر بر این امر گواهی دارد. در عصر جهانی شدن، قدرتهای احساسی تصاویر و فیلم ها براحتی به داخل دیگر فرهنگ ها رخنه و فیلم های هالیوودی را بدل به یکی از کالاهای صادراتی عمده آمریکا به دیگر کشورها کرده است.
فیلم صرفاً وسیله تفنن نیست، چیزی مثل احساس یک سواری پرهیجان در یک ترن هوائی برای تماشاچیان در یک سالن تاریک است. همچنانکه از عنوان مقاله “تجارت امروز سینما” پیداست، سینما را نوعی صنعت هم می توان به شمار آورد. مسئله ای بدیهی منتها نادیده انگاشته شده این است که موفقیت یا شکست یک فیلم بیش از هر جای دیگر در بازار فروش رقم می خورد. آیا مردم برای تماشای فیلم پول خرج خواهند کرد؟ این سوالی اساسی است که دست اندرکاران این صنعت پیش از آغاز ساخت فیلم از خود می پرسند، و این کلید پی بردن به محتوا و مفهوم فیلم های آمریکایی ست.
چشم انداز های اقتصادی
حذف موانع تجاری ازطریق سازمان بازرگانی جهانی و دیگر پیمان ها، نجات میلیون ها نفر را از فقر در سراسر جهان نوید می دهد. حفظ سیاست های حمایتی، با جلوگیری از توسعه اقتصاد پایدار، به میلیون ها نفر، به ویژه در کشورهای در حال توسعه در جهان آسیب می رساند. در حالی که لازم است کشورهای پیشرفته هم سیاست های حمایتی خود را حذف کنند، کشورهای در حال توسعه با حذف موانع حمایتی برای واردات کالا از یکدیگر بیشترین سود را عاید می دارند. تقویت سیاست های حمایتی به سود معدودی از مقامات سیاسی و به زیان جمع انبوهی از افراد است. این مسئله و راه حل آن دارای طبیعتی سیاسی است. در نشریۀ الکترونیکی آمریکا نویسندگانی در داخل و خارج از دولت آمریکا طی مقالاتی پیرامون این موضوع به تشریح مزایای حاصل از تجارت وهزینه های سیاست های حمایتی پرداخته اند.
هیئت انتخاب کننده
احتمالاً بیش از یک صد میلیون رای دهنده آرای خود را در انتخابات سراسری 4 نوامبر ایالات متحده به صندوق ها خواهند ریخت. اما فقط 538 زن و مرد رئیس جمهوری بعدی ایالات متحده را انتخاب می کنند و این انتخاب در 15 دسامبر، در 50 پایتخت ایالتی و در واشنگتن دی سی صورت خواهد گرفت. این نظام غیر مستقیم انتخاباتی را هیئت انتخاب کنندۀ ریاست جمهوری می نامند. این ترتیب که در سال 1787 توسط تدوین کنندگان قانون اساسی اتخاذ گردید، برای آمریکائیان و غیر آمریکائیان به طور یکسان معما گونه است. این امر منعکس کننده واگذاری قدرت از سوی نظام حکومتی فدرال، نه تنها به حکومت ملی و مردم، بلکه به ایالات است. ما امیدواریم که این شماره از نشریۀ الکترونیکی آمریکا آگاهی شما را در باره دلایل تاریخی انتخاب نظام هیئت انتخاب کننده رئیس جمهوری و نحوه عملکرد آن افزایش دهد.
آزادی دین
