Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) in New Jersey

The Conservation Innovation Grant program (CIG) is a voluntary program authorized under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) administered by NRCS. The program is intended to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies while leveraging Federal investment in environmental enhancement and protection in conjunction with agricultural production. Under CIG, Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funds are used to award competitive grants to non-Federal governmental or non-governmental organizations, Tribes, or individuals. The grants require a 50-50 match between the agency and the applicant.

New Jersey announces funding opportunities for the state component of CIG once a year on Grants.gov, normally in February or March after the national CIG component is announced.

The CIG State Component offers eligible entities the opportunity to apply for grants up to $75,000 for eligible projects within the state. Specific details of the program change annually based on national and state priorities. Interested applicants may review the prior year funded projects and proposal requirements to get an idea of the types of projects funded; however what was considered innovative in the past may not be considered innovative in the future.

Review the links below for additional details on both national and state components.

The Announcement of Program Funding for the National CIG for Fiscal Year 2008 was announced by Chief Arlen Lancaster on Monday, December 17, 2008. Proposals for this opportunity were due in Washington by February 20, 2008.

State Conservationist Tom Drewes announced the 2008 New Jersey Conservation Innovation Grants program awards in July 2008.
