Make a Difference!
The web based "Take Action" series
will assist you in encouraging FNS
program participants and staff to take
actions to improve their health by
making positive changes in key dietary
and related behaviors.
The first two address ways
to promote fruits and vegetables and to
support and encourage breastfeeding
among people that work with and
participate in the nutrition assistance
programs administered by the FNS
including:
- Special Supplemental Nutrition
Program for Women, Infants, and
Children (WIC),
- Food Stamp Program (FSP),
- Commodity Supplemental Food
Program (CSFP),
- School Nutrition Programs (NSLP,
SBP, SFSP),
- Child and Adult Care Food Program
(CACFP),
- Food Distribution Program on
Indian Reservations (FDPIR),
- Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
(FMNP), and
- The Emergency Food Assistance
Program (TEFAP).
State and local staff in all of these
FNS programs play an important role in
facilitating change in nutrition and
health by being role models for healthy
behaviors, by communicating consistent
nutrition messages, and by implementing
health promotion activities that
reinforce FNS' shared vision.
When all FNS programs work together,
the potential for changing health
behaviors of FNS' shared clients
increases. FNS program staff can set an
example for others in public health
settings by taking some of the steps in
these web resources. We all have a role in
showing the public that small steps over
time can yield big results.
