First NRCS-Arizona Snowpack Report Released for 2009

Statewide snowpack on Jan. 1 measured at 248 percent of the 30-year average, compared with 98 percent a year ago. Despite the heavy early snowpack, however, the long-range forecast calls for normal to below normal streamflow levels for the spring runoff period.

EQIP, WHIP Deadline Extended Until Jan. 30, 2009

The Natural Resources Conservation Service in Arizona will review all applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) received by Jan. 30. This is an extension from a previous ranking deadline of Dec. 5.

State Technical Committee Interim Final Rule Released

Notice of 60-day Public Comment Period

The interim final rule for State Technical Committees was released and is available for public comment until Jan. 26, 2009. The rule amended requirements regarding the composition and responsibilities of these advisory committees nationwide. The 2008 Farm Bill expands agricultural and forestry involvement in the committees, expands the committees’ authority to review local working groups’ efforts to address state program priorities, and requires the Secretary of Agriculture to standardize committee operations nationwide.
