Thank you for visiting the Accessibility Forum website.

The Forum conducted its final meeting in Sep 2003 and is no longer an active program.

GSA’s Office of Governmentwide Policy (OGP) was charged with providing technical assistance (including education) as required under the Section 508. The Accessibility Forum (a program within OGP) was launched in May of 2001 as an ongoing collaboration among stakeholders affected by Section 508 including user, industry, government, and other communities.

Accomplishments:

  • Created a diverse community of stakeholders -- unparalleled for the accessibility community;
  • Assembled a substantial set of resources and expertise, including Resource Documents delivered September 2002 (Material of technology and accessibility information directly related to the Section 508 standard);
  • Established place to network and share ideas;
  • Developed basis for producing tools to support procurement process (for both procurement and vendor communities);

These accomplishments led to the development of the primary Section 508 Compliance Tool available today for the federal acquisition and EIT vendor communities--the Buy Accessible Wizard. (see www.buyaccessible.org for complete information about the Wizard). The information that is maintained here on The Accessibility Forum website is maintained only as part of the history of GSA technical support for Section 508. For complete information about Section 508, the Wizard, and the Access Board standard for accessibility for Electronic and Information Technology go to: www.section508.gov.
