Members of a CSA buy shares in a farm, and receive a certain amount of fresh, locally grown food every week. At some farms each share member is asked to work on the farm; at others the work requirement is optional or nonexistent. In any case, share members not only get organically grown produce from NOFA farmers, but support organic farmers by assuring them of a certain level of income for the year. Appleton Farms Appleton Farms is 1000-acre property, managed by The Trustees of Reservations, a Massachusetts nonprofit land conservation organization. Besides vegetable fields for a 500 share CSA, the farm also includes hayfields, woods, wetlands, livestock, and a grass-based dairy herd. The farm is convenient to several towns, to beautiful beaches, and to the Boston commuter rail. Bay End Farm Bay End Farm is a 5 acre certified organic farm in Buzzards Bay, MA. Busa Farm CSA The CSA had ca. 100 members last year, and can accomodate up to 150 this year. The Busa Farm is located at 52 Lowell St., Lexington, next to the Arlington Reservoir. Belmont CSA The Belmont CSA is a community supported farm. We grow over fifty varieties of vegetables, herbs and melons for summer and winter CSA, restaurants, wholesale markets and hunger relief organizations in the Belmont-Cambridge area. There is one main season Belmont CSA. Weather permitting, share distribution will start early- to mid-May and run through mid-October. The cost of the share is $600. We also offer a Winter share. The Winter CSA share contains cool season leafy greens and root vegetables. It is distributed once a month in October, November and December. The cost of the Winter CSA share is $230. Brookfield Farm Brookfield Farm is a 525-share CSA with distribution sites in Amherst, Arlington, Lexington, Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, and Newton. The cost of a share is $490. Pick up days are Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2-7PM and Saturdays from 8-1PM. We deliver to the Boston Area sites on Thursdays. Colchester Neighborhood Farm Colchester Neighborhood Farm is a Bicentennial Farm located in Plympton MA. We operate a 60 member CSA, from mid June to October first. Carraig Farm is a family run farm practicing organic and sustainable farming. Using rotational grazing our animals are grass fed along with natural pest control management. Animals include sheep, dairy goats, poultry, horses and llamas. Organic freezer lamb and poultry are available along with vegetables, handspun yarn, fiber, goats milk soap and CSA shares. CSA shares can be purchased either whole or half and include baked bread, veggies and goats milk soap. Pick up is Sunday morning/afternoon or by appointment during week at our Ashby location. Free range heritage poultry will be avaialable every 2 months beginning end of April 2008, lamb available in August of 2008. Coyote Hill Farm We have about 3 acres involved in production of vegetables,fruit, and flowers. We do not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We grow a wide variety of vegetables and flowers that range over the entire growing season. We also have an orchard of about 80 trees that include apples, peaches, and pears. We have built a passive solar greenhouse that we have used to extend the season with winter greens and early tomatoes and peppers. We have just added a photo voltaic system that will supply us with most of our electrical needs. We sell our produce at the end of Martindale Road, the Northfield Farmers Market in Northfield and Greenfield\'s Market in Greenfield, Mass. We have a small CSA which we like to increase to about 12 members. Our operation is run by just the two of us. Crabapple Farm Crabapple Farm CSA shareholders get a canvas tote bag (three size options) to fill with their choice of the available crops each week. In addition, we offer a PYO area for shareholders which includes flowers, herbs, peas, beans, and cherry tomatoes. All produce certified organic. Full Season runs from June into November, Peak Season shares run July through October. Pick-up times are Monday and Thursday afternoons, 2-6pm. Farmer Dave's at Dumaresq Farm This 30 acre farm was preserved and purchased by Farmer Dave in 2006. 2008 is the first year of the on farm CSA. Farmer Dave grows a wide array of fruits and vegetables. The CSA sign up is limited to 40 people and is expected to end in the beginning of June. Pick up is every Tuesday afternoon beginning July 1st and ending November 11th. The 20 week regular vegetable share is $450. Optional super shares, fruit shares, and cut flower shares are available. Green Meadows Farm
Green Meadows Farm is a certified organic farm on over 230 acres located in South Hamilton, Ma. The farm offers a summer season CSA, and a winter produce co-op. Along with produce, Green Meadows Farm raises heritage breed lamb, pigs, turkeys, chickens and eggs. Local meat, cheese, grocery and gift items are available at their farmstand. Greenwich Springs Farm Greenwich Springs Farm is a organically operated and grass based small farm located in the Town of Hardwick near gate 43 of the Quabbin Reservoir. This year we will offer 20 weekly shares of our organic vegetable CSA at $450. Our season will run from June through October. We offer flexible payments as well as the possibility of work exchange. Pick up days are Tuesdays and Saturdays after 1 p.m. We plan to have an exciting array of vegetables and flowers as well as herd shares of grass fed raw goat milk, cheese, cream and butter. The dairy products will be limited so call or email to reserve your herd share early! Heirloom Harvest CSA Heirloom Harvest Community Farm and CSA is a 200-plus member certified organic farm located in Westborough, MA. We off full-size shares at $600 per share. An installment plan is available for those who cannot pay all at once (see website). The CSA share season runs from the last week of May/first week of June through the end of October. Share pickup days are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Pickups are at the farm, and at locations in Plainville, Millis, Brookline and Cambridge/Arlington. We are also looking for new pickup sites if your backyard or front porch is available! We are also looking for workshare who work 8 hours in exchange for a share of produce (see website for details). Kettle Pond Farm Kettle Pond Farm is a refreshing, certified organic vegetable oasis located in Berkley, MA on the Taunton River. The farm consists of forested walking trails, hay pastures and an organic vegetable operation. This includes a sixty member Community Supported Agriculture program (CSA) and a seasonal farm stand. Kettle Pond Farm is practicing sustainable agriculture and stewardship of open space. It is a place where the community can learn about the natural world and the importance of small-scale, organic agriculture for the health of the environment, individuals and local communities. Learning can take place through our summer educational programs or through impromptu farm visits.
Land’s Sake Farm Land's Sake Farm is part of a community stewardship organization of the same name that runs the farm, maintains town conservation land, ecologically manages private land and provides educational programming for a variety of students of all ages. Lindentree Farm CSA Lindentree Farm CSA, located in Lincoln, MA has aprox. 200 shares and has been certified organic since 1994. Pick up is at the farm only. There are three pick up days to choose from: Tues. and Thurs 1:30 -7:30 and Sat. 12-4 p.m. The season runs from June through October 20-22 weeks depending on the seaosn. All members must each do a total of four hours work for the summer, and new members must attend a preseason orientation to join. There are two size shares: LARGE $775 plus a new member $50 registration fee, or SMALL $625 plus a $50 new member registration fee. There are work opportunities available. Luna Farm Luna Farm, located in North Reading, is a five acre farm with two and a half acres in vegetable production; which embodies the ideals of Community Supported Agriculture. Community members may buy a share in the farm and in return receive fresh produce weekly from Mid-June to October. Luna Farms also sells weekly into a local Co-op. The mission of Luna Farm is to provide the community with fresh produce grown using sustainable and organic techniques and provide a holistic approach to food security and access. Luna Farm offers 30 CSA shares for the 2009 season which will be distributed in the Cambridge/Somerville and North Reading, MA areas.
Many Hands Organic Farm Many Hands Organic Farm, a CSA since 1992, utilizes two - three intensely farmed acres to raise produce and small fruit. We are certified organic by Baystate Organic Certifiers. We will be running a 120 member 20 week summer CSA, a fruit share - 30 members and a flower shore - 30 members. Additionally we will run a 6 week spring share - 25 members, and a 5 week fall CSA - 25 members, making it possible to participate for 31 weeks of the year.
Share prices Moose Hill Community Farm Moose Hill Community Farm is a collaboration between Mass Audubon\'s Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary and Ward\'s Berry Farm in Sharon, MA. We currently offer 150 shares. Full shares are $600 and single shares are $350. We will be expanding for the 2009 season. We offer vegetables, flowers, herbs, strawberries and melons from early June through October. Shareholders commit to six hours of work during the season. Mountain View Farm Mountain View Farm is a 400+ member CSA with distribution sites in Easthampton and Springfield. The cost of a share is based on a sliding scale from $435-$535. Pickup days: Any day, any time, year-round at the farm by arrangement and/or Fridays at the Sheffield Farmers' Market (mid-May through mid-October 4-7pm). Products offered: Beef, veal, pork, lamb, chicken, goat, turkey, goose, duck, sausages, bacon, guanciale, pancetta, eggs, milk, , a wide variety of all heirloom vegetables, yarn, wool, sheepskins, tours, workshops, etc. Work-trade opportunities are available. When considering the wide range of customers preferences and prices of cuts and the difficulty in divvying up each animal to members, Dom "came up with" (stole) the idea of farm currency. We print Moon In The Pond Farm money in various denominations (5s, 10s, 20s) and sell "Bacon Bucks" bundles of $150, $250, or $500 anytime during the year. Bucks can be redeemed at any time, for anything that the farm offers as it is available. This system for our CSA allows maximum flexibility so members may join to support the work of the farm at anytime and purchase/redeem their shares as they like, when they like. Bacon Bucks participants (barter is acceptable payment) receive my occasional e-mail update and pre-notice about what's available, upcoming, and happening on the farm. They also are welcome at the farm for a free-guided tour and to visit (by arrangement) after that. There are no deadlines on purchasing or redeeming shares. Natural Roots In 2009 we will have shares for 180-190 families. A large share is about the size of a paper grocery bag and costs $525. A share is equivalent to about 2/3 of that size and costs $350. Our season runs from the first week in June through the end of October or early November, depending on the season. As a shareholder you will choose from a large array of seasonal vegetables with which to fill your weekly share. These may include a variety of salad greens, lettuce, arugula, radishes, cooking greens, watermelons, carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, leeks, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, summer squash, herbs including dill, cilantro, parsley, and basil, garlic, scallions, winter squash, parsnips, celery and celeriac, just to name a few! We also provide the opportunity for you-picking crops such as peas, beans, cherry tomatoes, and raspberries! From our former flock of sheep we offer our own dyed and natural colored yarn, roving, washed wool, and sheepskins. As a shareholder you will have the opportunity to shop weekly for other local goods such as bread, cheese, yoghurt, maple syrup, honey, and miso at our farm shop. Newton Community Farm Newton Community Farm is an intensive, 1-acre market garden supplying produce to a 62 member CSA, two farmers\' markets, and an on-site farm stand. CSA shares run from early June to late October (approx. 20 weeks). Weekly shares cost $525 with a 12-hour work commitment for the season. Alternate week shares cost $275 with a 6-hour work commitment. Pick ups take place at the farm Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 pm. Each week you choose which day you\'d like to come. Waltham Fields Community Farm Sold Out for 2008 Walthman Fields Community Farm is a project of community Farms Outreach, a nonprofit organization supporting hunger relief, eductation, and farm preservation. Our CSA has 300 members. There is one share size, $500 for 20 weeks of distribution. Installment plan options are available. Pickups are at the farm, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Fruit shares ($65) and winter shares ($100) are also available. There is no work requirement for shareholders, but we welcome them to the fields and our organization. World PEAS Cooperative Sold Out for 2008* - World PEAS (\"People Enhancing Agricultural Sustainability\") Cooperative is part of the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, a nonprofit organization made up of immigrant and other beginning farmers. Our CSA began in 2006 and currently has 100 members. In 2008, shareholders pay $500 for an 18-week distribution. Pickups take place at our farm in Dracut, MA on Thursdays, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Distribution sites in other communities (\"clusters\") are arranged with a minimum of 25 shareholders for an extra $25 fee. Fruit shares ($60) and winter shares ($75) are also available.
