credentials

Welcome. Thank you for your interest in the 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting.

Who are our Newsroom Registrants?

Credentials to access AAAS Newsroom resources are freely available to all career science communicators, with appropriate credentials. Working reporters (staff or freelance), public information officers (PIOs), journalism professors and students qualify for complimentary registration to the 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting through the AAAS Office of Public Programs.

Who are our General Registrants?

Newsroom credentials will not be issued to representatives of lobbying, special interest or advocacy organizations. Similarly, scientists, scientific journal editors, advertising or marketing professionals and investment analysts must register as general attendees and pay the fee. General registration for the 2009 AAAS Annual Meeting will be available online beginning in early October, 2008. Please watch for a notice on the AAAS home page, or contact the Meetings staff at (202) 326-6450 or meetings@aaas.org.

I am a career science communicator. How can I register?

Newsroom attendees are strongly encouraged to register in advance via our online site, but you also can register on-site, with appropriate credentials and photo ID. Please review our specific information related to press credentials.

To pick up a newsroom badge on-site, all advance registrants must present valid photo identification issued by a federal, state or local government. Each registrant must pick up his or her own credentials. For security reasons, registrants without proper identification will not be admitted. Press credentials provide access to AAAS news briefings, exhibits and the general newsroom area. No visitors or family members are permitted inside the newsroom.

Those with newsroom credentials shall not engage in publicity or promotional efforts in the newsroom work area (beyond providing materials for scheduled press briefings or placing brochures on the tables provided near the coffee lounge). Violations will result in revocation of credentials.

I am a scientist, lobbyist or investment analyst, but I also have a newsletter and a Web page where I help to communicate science to the public. May I register as Press?

No. To receive complimentary Newsroom Registration, you must be a career science communicator whose primary occupation is science communications. Scientists or investment analysts who also communicate science are not eligible for complimentary newsroom registration.

General registrants, please visit the AAAS Meeting home page, or contact the Meetings staff at (202) 326-6450 or meetings@aaas.org for information about registration.
