TACD Convention - Johnson City, March 1 - 3, 2009

NOTE: NRCS Employees, when you make your hotel reservations for TACD in Johnson City, be sure to tell the hotel that you are Federal Employees. This is the only way NRCS employees will get the Johnson City federal lodging per diem rate of $70 per night instead of the convention rate of $79.

RE: 2009 TACD Annual Convention Registration

We would like to encourage each of you to make plans to attend the TACD 65th Annual Convention, which will be held March 1 – 3, 2009, at the Holiday Inn in Johnson City, Tennessee. Please share this information with the Board and other office personnel.

The theme for the 2009 Convention is People - Conservation’s Past and Future. An agenda is being planned that will provide important information for all attendees and guests. There will be important updates on the Farm Bill, federal and state programs, and legislative issues. The TACD Executive Board and Planning Committee are working hard for this to be a rewarding Convention for everyone. From Vespers Services on Sunday, to a full day of meetings and the auction on Monday, to the banquet finale on Tuesday, the Convention will have something for all. The hotel has a gracious, friendly, experienced staff and will ensure that your stay is pleasant.

Take advantage of pre-registration savings and convenience by returning the enclosed registration forms by February 6, 2009. Please print and copy as many as you will need. To avoid long lines and to save money, send your completed registrations by February 6, 2009 to:

Bernice Scalf
Hawkins County SCD
1401 East Main Street
Rogersville, TN 37857

Remember to make checks payable to TACD, include an email address if you have one, so that we can update our database, and return registrations by February 6th. You should note special dietary needs on registration forms. There are three optional tours on the registration forms. The Bristol Motor Speedway and the Gray Fossil Site tours will each begin about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Historic Downtown Jonesborough tour will begin about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with a possibility of viewing the Quilt Trail. Attendees are own their own for lunch that day, so those taking the Downtown tour might want to eat lunch in Jonesborough.

The room rate at the Holiday Inn is $79.00 per night. Reservations can be made by calling 866-400-0541. You will need to mention you are with TACD. The hotel will honor the discounted rate until February 14, 2009. Additional information for the hotel can be found at www.hijohnsoncity.com. An incorrect Interstate exit number is listed on their website. It is listed as exit # 35, off Interstate 26, but that was the old exit number, and it is now Exit 20, onto Roan Street. If you would like to use mapquest or other driving direction maps, the street address for the hotel is 101 West Springbrook Drive, Johnson City, TN, 37604.

Johnson City has a lot to offer. The hotel is very close to a shopping mall, theater, chain restaurants, and other attractions. Come a day early, stay a day later, and bring the whole family. If you need additional information, please call me at 423-272-0217, ext 3.
