PORTLAND, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers are hosting their annual Engineering Day event in conjunction with National Engineers Week on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006.
The event will take place between 9 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. at the Robert Duncan Plaza building in downtown Portland. About 100 students from area high schools will participate in this event, designed to educate them about the Corps and the various careers and opportunities engineering has to offer.
The event will begin with introductory remarks and presentations from Portland District leadership. Corps civilian personnel will then divide the students into small groups to rotate through hands-on applications and presentations, ranging in topics from hydraulic, structural and coastal engineering to emergency response to computer and environmental engineering. One presentation will include information about the Corps’ support for the Global War on Terror, led by Corps employees who deployed to Iraq. There also will be an Opportunities Fair with representatives from local colleges, engineering agencies and military engineers.
Please call the Public Affairs Office at (503) 808-4510 if you are interested in attending all or part of this event.
