Students accepted into our graduate program are supported by part-time research or teaching assistantships. Most assistantships are half time at a rate equal to a monthly stipend of $1,333. In addition, assistantships usually include a tuition waiver, health insurance, liability insurance, long-term disability, workers' compensation and employer contribution to social security.

Graduate assistantships are provided by the department and by individual faculty programs based on merit. While the number of awards available each year varies, the department plans to recruit between 8 to 10 new students each year.

Students receiving research assistantships are usually obligated to work on project-related activities assigned by the principle investigator - usually a faculty member. Students receiving a teaching assistantship are assigned to a course or related teaching activity by the teaching assistantship coordinator with day-to-day supervision provided by the faculty or staff member directly responsible for the activity.
