Know Your Facts About Organic Wine Labeling
Wine maybe labeled as “Organic Wine” if:
Grapes have been grown in accordance with the organic standards established by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). Wine has been produced and bottled in a certified organic facility, and these wines may carry the USDA ORGANIC logo because they contain no added sulfites.
If wine is labeled “Made With Organic Grapes” it means:
Grapes have been grown in accordance with the organic standards established by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). Wine has been produced and bottled in a certified organic facility. These wines may not carry the USDA ORGANIC logo because they may contain added sulfites.
If wine is labeled with an “Organic Ingredient Statement Only” it means:
Wine contains at least some certified organic grapes, and the wine is not required to be made at a certified winery or be certified. CCOF has no organic certification oversight over these growers.
