What is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers-and the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking? Radon. A radioactive gas resulting from the decay of radium and uranium found naturally in rock and soil. Exposure to radon in air can lead to lung cancer.

Managing Tritium-Containing Building Exit Signs
In response to a lack of awareness about the safe handling and disposal of tritium exit signs, EPA has developed an on-line training course directed toward facility owners, management, and maintenance personnel. It contains easy-to-follow, step-by-step guidelines on using and disposing of tritium exit signs, as well as rationale for why proper use and disposal is so important. Guidance on Water Efficiency
Guidance on meeting the water conservation goals of E.O. 13423 is now available in the E.O. 13423 section of the web site. It addresses three key elements of compliance: baseline development, efficiency opportunity identification/ implementation, and necessary reporting. For each key area, it provides EO 13423 interpretation, suggests a path forward, and provides resources for additional information..

Biobased Product Contract Templates
USDA developed contract templates for incorporating biobased products into contracts for operations and maintenance, vehicle maintenance, grounds maintenance, and minor construction services. The templates can be found in the Green Purchasing section of the OFEE web site, in the Tools and Resources section under Biobased Products.

Counting Waste-to-Energy in Waste Diversion Goals
The E.O. 13423 implementing instructions require agencies to update or establish recycling or waste diversion goals to be achieved by 2010. OFEE issued guidance to the agencies re-affirming 2000 guidance that "waste diversion goals" consist of source reduction and recycling activities and do not include waste-to-energy activities.
