Sunday, January 13: Public Open Forum For Sustainable Agriculture Meeting at the Lake House, Columbia, SC/12:00 till 1:30 - Local Foods Lunch/$10.00/Please RSVP by Jan. 7th to guarantee lunch/1:30 till 4:30 PM - Open discussion session. The public are invited to attend this session and are welcome to provide input. Advisory Committee members should attend this session to hear public comments and to participate in the discussion. RSVP as soon as possible (deadline January 7) to Kelly Gilkerson at kgilker@clemson.edu or at 864-656-5057.
Monday, January 14: AC Meeting at the Lake House, Columbia, SC
9:00 AM through lunch. Meeting of the Advisory Committee to review input from public meeting, prioritize issues/needs, and develop a plan and schedule for education and training events during 2008. Complimentary lunch will be served to Advisory Committee members.
Wednesday, February 13: Student Organic Farm Advisory Committee meeting, Jordan Room, Clemson University Campus, 4:30 PM. Members of the SOF Advisory Committee and individuals with and interest in the CU Student Organic Farm will discuss issues key to the farm at this time. Refreshments will be served.
Saturday, February 23: Hub City Farmers Market Vendor Open House for farmers interested in participating in the Hub City Farmers Market for 2008. To be held at the Spartanburg County Public Library in Spartanburg, SC in the Hoechst Celanese room at 9:30 AM. This meeting is for farmers only.
Thursday, February 28: A Workshop on Biodiesel Production and Use, Pee Dee Research and Education Center, Florence,SC 9:30 AM till 4:00 PM. Demystify biodiesel production, emphasizing methods for producing high quality fuel as well as proper safety precautions. People of all levels of experience are encouraged to attend, from just curious to commercial biodiesel producers. Questions are encouraged, so come out and learn about how you can convert plant matter and restaurant waste into a high quality fuel for diesel engines. There is no charge for the workshop and lunch is complimentary, however registration is required. The registration deadline to be included in the complimentary lunch is February 22. Tuesday, May 27: Clemson Sustainable Agriculture Program 2008 Organic Vegetable Production Workshop Series "Organic Vegetable Farming on a Budget" Part One: Spring and Early Summer Vegetable Production Techniques WHEN: Tuesday, May 27, 2008- 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM (Lunch provided) WHERE: Sumter Cooperative Farms, 320 West Brewington Rd., Sumter, SC 29153 INSTRUCTORS: Azeez Mustafa and Gayla Carle of Sumter Cooperative Farms. SCF is an organic farming cooperative known for the high quality and diversity of their vegetables, If you are interested in getting started with organic vegetables or in improving your production techniques, this will be an excellent opportunity to learn from experts. Saturday, June 6:Farm Walks with Joe Bassett - 9am-11am. Joe Bassett (Clemson University Student Organic Farm Manager) will be taking guests through the organic farming process by touring the gardens and fielding questions from participants. Where: The Student Organic Farm at Clemson University. Directions to the farm from campus: Turn off of Perimeter Rd. onto Old Stadium Rd. (next to the Administrative Services Building). Go approximately mile and turn onto the first dirt road on your right and continue on that road, staying to the right and passing the aquaculture ponds on the left, until you reach the Learning Lab building with the green, V-shaped roof. Cost: The cost is $15.00 per person or $30.00 per carload for each walk. You may pay on arrival at the farm.

Monday September 22 - Friday September 26: IOIA (Independent Organic Inspectors Association) training for extension agents and independents interested in Organic Livestock Certification. Madren Center, Clemson Univeristy, Clemson, SC. Sept. 22, 12:00 noon through Sept. 26, 2:00 PM.
