As of Oct. 1,
2008,Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
(SNAP) is the new name for the federal Food Stamp Program.
The new name reflects the changes we’ve made to meet the needs of
our clients, including a focus on nutrition and an increase in
benefit amounts. SNAP is the federal name for the program. State
programs may have different names.
This page is for State and county personnel who work with SNAP
applicants to help them find work.
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act
of 1996 added separate work rules and restrictions for able-bodied
adults without dependents (ABAWDs). Basic work rules are covered in 7
CFR 273.7. The ABAWD rules are covered in 7 CFR-273.24. Both
sections of the rules can be found by visiting our
rules page.
