Laboratory-confirmed human cases of H5N1 avian influenza, December 2003 to present

Beginning in early 2005, CIDRAP published two sets of numbers for laboratory-confirmed human cases of avian influenza: official World Health Organization (WHO) counts as well as unofficial totals compiled by CIDRAP staff on the basis of information from numerous US and international news services, newspapers, and Web sites we consider reliable. With the increased focus internationally on avian influenza and the more rapid confirmation by WHO of cases being reported by national governments, we now refer users directly to the WHO case counts (an archive of tables, with the most recent at top) and situation updates (an archive of text documents describing cases).

See also CIDRAP News on Avian Influenza and Pandemic Influenza for ongoing coverage of the developing international situation.
