Larry London has literally worked his way around the world. Larry’s radio career stops include stops in Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit as well as internationally in Hong Kong, Tokyo and China. Before coming to VOA Music Mix, Larry worked in Tampa, Florida, at a station owned by the biggest U.S. broadcasting company. He says he’s been blessed with great opportunities. “I am so happy to be in such a beautiful city as Washington, D.C.," says Larry. "It’s amazing to look around and see yourself surrounded by so much history. This is a great city, with so much culture. This is a fantastic place to raise my daughter. Music feature writer and American Gold host Doug Levine came to VOA in 1985 after working at radio stations in New York, Maryland and Virginia. Doug has covered the country's top jazz festivals, including JVC New York, Jazz Fest, Monterey, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Detroit International and Jazz Aspen, as well as folk and blues festivals in Seattle, San Francisco, Memphis, Newport and Telluride. One of his favorite interviews was with the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown at the Beale Street Blues Festival in Memphis. "He had just finished an incredible three hour concert without a break," Doug recalls, and his first words were 'I feel good!'" BACK TO TOP |

Ray McDonald grew up in Reno, Nevada, where he began his broadcasting career in 1979 at KUNAR -- the University of Nevada's radio station. The following year, Ray worked overnights at Album rocker KOZZ, then departed for San Francisco, where he attended school at San Francisco State and spun punk rock at the college station, KSFS. In 1984, Ray journeyed east to the Voice of America for what he thought was a summer internship. He received a permanent position as host and producer of VOA's Now Music, U.S.A. Not only did the job enable him to meet some of the world's greatest artists, it also gave him the opportunity to meet his wife, who initiated the relationship as a pen pal from Calcutta, India. Country Hits USA host Mary Morningstar joined VOA in 1978 as a music library staff member and later to the position of writer and producer. Mary has traveled to Nashville to cover the International Country Music Fan Fair and the Country Music Association Awards. She has been studio director for Border Crossings since its inception in 1998. BACK TO TOP |

Broadcasting veteran Ed Kowalski is a Washington, D.C. native. Ed has also worked in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Detroit, Michigan, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Ed's format experience includes Contemporary Hit Radio (Top 40), Album/Classic Rock, Adult Contemporary, New Age, Smooth Jazz, Oldies, and All-News. In 1978, Ed joined the U.S. Federal Communications Commision. He came to VOA in 1984.
Ed spends his free time with his wife Patty. He enjoys sports, music, playing with his eight cats, and tending to two tanks of hermit crabs. BACK TO TOP |

Katherine Cole (her friends call her "KC") is host of Roots and Branches which shows where today's music comes from and where it may be going. Her program features the best of rootsy rock, country, bluegrass, newgrass, and folk music, with some blues and a few singer-songwriters thrown in to complete the mix. Roots and Branches also features performances recorded live at our VOA studios and interviews KC gathers as she travels around the country meeting musicians and learning about their craft in the modern folk tradition.
