LTJG Shakirat Apelogun Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Shakirat Apelogun serves as a Program Officer in the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps in the Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. She is responsible for helping to develop and implement policies and procedures related to deployment of MRC volunteers who are willing, able, and approved to serve outside their local jurisdiction during a large-scale emergency. Previously, LTJG Apelogun served as a Watch Officer with the Secretary of Health and Human Services Operations Center, which was a 24/7 operation. The Secretary's Operations Center (SOC) is the focal point for synthesis of critical public health and medical information on behalf of the U.S. government. During emergency situations or exigent circumstances, the SOC coordinates incident management system responses for the Department of Health and Human Services. Before joining the U.S. Public Health Service, LTJG Apelogun served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years as a Personnel Specialist in which she assisted and coordinated several developments and implementation of policies and procedures for military deployments. LTJG Apelogun was commissioned in September 2005; she earned her Bachelor Degree in Information Technology from American Intercontinental University and is currently working on her Masters Degree in Healthcare Informatics.
