Information Services Librarian

General Information: The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for a reference librarian position. The Norris Medical Library is an academic research library serving the schools and departments of medicine, pharmacy, and occupational and physical therapy. The library has a strong emphasis on providing access to a wide variety of electronic information resources and educating faculty, students, and staff through seminars on Internet resources, presentation software, database searching, evidence-based health care, personal digital assistants, and bibliographic management. Responsibilities: Participate in all reference and information services, including reference desk, consultation services, performing online searches, assisting users to develop search strategies, and answering online reference questions. Share responsibility for updating library web pages. Participate in an extensive program for user education with emphasis on developing course content and materials for providing instruction in computer-based information systems, the Internet, and the use of library resources. Provide curriculum-based class instruction in informatics and evidence-based medicine for medical and other health sciences students and grading student assignments. Participate in library’s liaison program by promoting information resources and library services and initiating new programs for those in the clinical setting. Take part in special projects, e.g., the promotion of personal digital assistants among health care professionals and development of web tutorials and educational modules to expand our educational program to on-demand instruction.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. Strong oral and written communication and computer skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and adult learners. Demonstrated creativity and initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary: Beginning salary between $48,500–$54,500, depending on experience. This position is in a continuing-appointment track, the USC Libraries equivalent to tenure. Medical Librarian

Marketing Manager- Site Licenses

Successful candidate will lead the marketing program for the Office of Publishing and Member Services (OPMS) site license sales team; work with the directors (site license, marketing) and managers (site license administrative, sales, and new journals) to create and administer strategic global marketing plan for all site license products in corporate and academic markets, including product marketing management, media planning, branding and sales marketing support; analyze data from the CRM system to boost marketing efforts; implement tactical marketing efforts to key markets to improve return on investment (ROI); ensure the Science brand and related journals are communicated in line with American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) standards; manage the creation of all marketing collateral and ensure brochures are in stock and translated for agents; work with sales team on new ideas to boost the sales presence of Science and related journals in the market place, including print and online advertising campaigns; spearhead market research on current and new Science/AAAS products; keep tabs on and report to the sales team and management about the competition (new products, offers, marketing efforts); work with the new journals manager to ensure continued marketing focus on new journals; launch marketing efforts for titles as they are added to the product portfolio; review online products to make sure that information is up to date and serve as online brand manager. Attend key library shows and work with sales team to promote current and future titles; supervise professional and support marketing staff; assign work, provide training, and conduct performance reviews; establish and monitor a budget for department and authorize expenditures within set guidelines; maintain database to support ongoing needs of marketing activities; perform other work related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Position requires extensive university or college level training leading to a bachelor's degree (marketing or related field); 5–10 years’ experience in progressively responsible positions in marketing and/or publishing with 3–5 years in a medical or scientific publishing setting preferred; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of marketing including marketing research, direct mail, promotions, and exhibit management; familiarity with the library market for scholarly journals and electronic site license products; understanding of online library environment and online publishing as well as management of online materials; creativity and ingenuity required to devise a variety of marketing programs; excellent written and verbal communication skills including top-notch presentation skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; computer skills (Microsoft Office); knowledge of CRM system highly desired.
