16,000 College Students to Volunteer Nationwide on MLK Day of Service 2009 |

Over 16,000 college students from 130 campuses in 28 states, plus the District of Columbia, are expected to engage in volunteer service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These projects, which include everything from neighborhood clean-ups to preparing and serving meals to hospice patients, will take place on or during the week of the federal King Holiday, January 19. |

Serve DC and DC Citizen Corps Launch “Commander Ready” Preparedness Campaign for Children in the District of Columbia |

Who says a kid can’t be a superhero…even one that dons a red helmet and a “go” kit? Commander Ready who is led by two members of the Ready Team: Reggie and Rachel, and accompanied by their dog Rodney have arrived. Previewing Tuesday, April 25th at 9a.m. at Peabody Elementary in Washington DC., the Ready’s will educate on disasters and emergencies, play games and complete fun activities which reinforce children’s roles in emergency preparedness. |
