Welcome to Public Health Watch
Launched in August 2003, the Public Health Watch web site provides clinicians, patients, and veterans with up-to-date information on the broad range of public health topics being addressed by the Office of Public Health and Environmental Hazards.
When SARS became the focus of international attention in Spring 2003, VA quickly launched a web site devoted to the topic. Since the SARS outbreak has been contained, we are now in the phase of preventing a future outbreak. One of the lessons we have learned from SARS is that timely information is of utmost importance, and an educated public is a prepared public. The Public Health Watch web site applies the lessons learned from SARS to other public health issues through timely posting of educational materials on this web site.
The pool of scientific knowledge regarding diseases like SARS changes frequently, and so will this site. We will alert you to new public health issues, VA initiatives, and site updates through the At a Glance section on the Public Health Watch home page. In addition, the
Broadcasts/Webcasts and Links pages will be updated
regularly. We encourage you to browse our site
return frequently for these and many other topics of
interest. We welcome your feedback.
