Michael Anastasio, Lab Director, BIO

Dr. Anastasio has been the Director of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) since June 1, 2006, and is President of the Los Alamos National Security, LLC. The Laboratory is a principal contributor to the Department of Energy’s programs to maintain the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile and to reduce the international dangers posed by weapons of mass destruction.  Prior to his current position, Dr. Anastasio was the Director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2002 until 2006.

Dr. Anastasio has received numerous commendations and is widely recognized for his leadership in national security science and the safe stewardship of nuclear weapons. He is the recipient of the 1990 DOE Weapons Recognition of Excellence Award for technical leadership in nuclear design. The award acknowledged Anastasio's outstanding theoretical and experimental contributions to understanding boost physics.
