Ornamental Plants Group |
|
The mission of the ornamental plant group is to develop information and products that produce positive economic and environmental benefits to the ornamental plant industry in the Gulf Coast region. Our research programs encompass classical breeding, entomology, horticulture, molecular genetics, and plant pathology. Uncovering the genetic basis for host-plant resistance to diseases and pests helps us understand and create improved ornamental germplasm. Investigating the impact of diseases, insects, weeds, and other pests will facilitate the development of new cultural and chemical practices as well as novel managment approaches for commercial production. We also evaluate and integrate new technologies, such as biotechnology and mechanization, into commercial nursery production. We will continue our strong relationship with the diverse ornamental plant industry and welcome input in this effort. Click on the name of individual scientists to learn more about their work.
