Cabela's,
one of the largest retailers of outdoor recreational products, and
Ducks Unlimited, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to
the preservation of wetlands, joined the Sportsman's Forum in late 2001.
These organizations join
the Forum's efforts to reduce boating fatalities among sportsmen, especially
anglers and waterfowl hunters.
The
Forum meets regularly to develop new and innovative ways to promote
safe boating practices to anglers and waterfowl hunters. The last
Forum meeting was held on March 7, 2002, in Annapolis, Maryland.
North
American Fishing Club editor, Mr. Steve Pennaz, announced Club's
commitment in promoting life jacket use.

The North American Outdoors
group announces new corporate policy on life jacket use for its magazines
and TV shows. The group, with over 1 million members, is one of the largest
sporting organizations in the United States. A copy of this policy
may be downloaded in Adobe .pdf format.
What
does all of this mean for you? Simple. Wear your
life jacket! But, you say, "lifejackets are uncomfortable
and will hinder me from doing what I enjoy most." Well, it's
true that some styles of life jackets are somewhat bulky and let's face
it, not very stylish. But that in itself shouldn't stop you from
wearing something that can save your life! Thanks to modern technology,
there are now Coast Guard approved lifejackets that are not only stylish,
but unobtrusive as well.
So the
next time you're at your favorite outdoor show or supply store, take
a minute to check out the latest safety gear for your rig. A new
life jacket may not catch you another fish or help you get closer to
the ducks - but it'll definitely save you for the ones you love!
