Police station Protecting police, solving crimes
I learned the hard way, I'm not faster than a speeding bullet. I'm glad I was wearing my protective vest. police officer

Detectives Sipowitz, Kojak, and Columbo make catching crooks look easy, but real law enforcement can be a dangerous, complex business. NIST helps law enforcement agencies ensure that their equipment is safe and effective. NIST provides the testing methods, standards, and scientific data needed to:

measure the performance of bullet- resistant vests and helmets, police cars, speed and metal detectors, and communications systems and

accurately analyze crime scene evidence such as gunpowder residues, blood, hair, paint, fiber, or glass samples.
