Upcoming Leadership Changes for the AWRA Board

It seems that with every presidential election and inauguration we hear about how important this election is and how critical the issues are facing us this election cycle. And each time it is probably true. However, it is undeniable that we are presently facing many monumental challenges. These include a world-wide economic crisis, energy challenges, climate change, a major reduction in the scientific workforce due to the retirement of the baby boomers, and an apparently growing lack of faith in traditional institutions, including scientific institutions, to name a few....

In September 2008 the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), the Environment and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (EWRI/ASCE), and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) brought together water resource experts from the public and private sector, congressional staff, and federal agencies to review the results of three National Water Policy Dialogues conducted by AWRA in 2002, 2005, and 2007 at the request of 10 federal water resource agencies...

news Undergraduate Research Fellowships Announcement

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates - 2009 Program at Virginia Tech

Applications are invited from qualified and motivated undergraduate students (sophomores, juniors and rising seniors - science and engineering majors) from all U.S. colleges/universities to participate in the third year of a 10-week (May 31-August 7, 2009) summer research in interdisciplinary watershed sciences and engineering at Virginia Tech.

The research program is funded through the National Science Foundation – Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program. Application materials, possible research projects and other program activities are posted here.

Deadline for application submission is March 2, 2009. Successful applicants will be informed by March 20, 2009. Contact : Dr. Tamim Younos ( phone: (540)231-8039 tyounos@vt.edu ).
