Upcoming Leadership Changes for the AWRA Board

It seems that with every presidential election and inauguration we hear about how important this election is and how critical the issues are facing us this election cycle. And each time it is probably true. However, it is undeniable that we are presently facing many monumental challenges. These include a world-wide economic crisis, energy challenges, climate change, a major reduction in the scientific workforce due to the retirement of the baby boomers, and an apparently growing lack of faith in traditional institutions, including scientific institutions, to name a few....

Congratulations to the two winners of AWRA’s 2008 Annual Water Resources Conference Student Presenter Competition held during the conference in New Orleans, LA, Nov. 17-20 :

To all conference participants and sponsors, I would like to say thank you, for making the 2008 Annual Water Resourc­es Conference in New Orleans such a huge success!

In September 2008 the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), the Environment and Water Resources Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (EWRI/ASCE), and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) brought together water resource experts from the public and private sector, congressional staff, and federal agencies to review the results of three National Water Policy Dialogues conducted by AWRA in 2002, 2005, and 2007 at the request of 10 federal water resource agencies... 

National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates - 2009 Program at Virginia Tech

Applications are invited from qualified and motivated undergraduate students (sophomores, juniors and rising seniors - science and engineering majors) from all U.S. colleges/universities to participate in the third year of a 10-week (May 31-August 7, 2009) summer research in interdisciplinary watershed sciences and engineering at Virginia Tech.

The research program is funded through the National Science Foundation – Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program. Application materials, possible research projects and other program activities are posted here.

JAWRA includes a book review section to keep readers abreast of the latest publications. The quality of the book review section depends on having qualified professionals willing to review books. We are always in need of reviewers. If you would be willing to review a book, please contact the Book Review Editor, Dr. R.H. McCuen at rhmccuen@eng.umd.edu. Provide him with: (1) an email address; (2) a complete mailing address including ZIP; and (3) a list of keywords that describes your areas of interests. Book reviews are generally about 1000 words in length.
