NIWQP Project/Study Area—

Salton Sea

Background
The NIWQP's activities were restricted to assisting in other ongoing programs that may help meet NIWQP goals at minimal costs. For example:
  • Assisted in evaluating wetlands that were being developed in the Imperial Valley. These wetlands were constructed under a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. The wetlands may be suitable for removal of selenium and other contaminants in drains and the New and Alamo Rivers.

  • Provided technical input on plans to transfer water from the Imperial Irrigation District to Southern California coastal areas. Some of these plans may have a significant impact on selenium concentrations in drains, the New and Alamo Rivers, and the Salton Sea.
