NIWQP Project/Study Area—

Salton Sea

Background

The NIWQP's activities were restricted to assisting in other ongoing programs that may help meet NIWQP goals at minimal costs. For example:

Assisted in evaluating wetlands that were being developed in the Imperial Valley. These wetlands were constructed under a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. The wetlands may be suitable for removal of selenium and other contaminants in drains and the New and Alamo Rivers.
Provided technical input on plans to transfer water from the Imperial Irrigation District to Southern California coastal areas. Some of these plans may have a significant impact on selenium concentrations in drains, the New and Alamo Rivers, and the Salton Sea.
