The Department of Entomology has a long history of service and outreach to the University and community-at-large.  The tradition of strong service to the Department is recognized with the Outstanding Service Award for Administrative, Professional, Clerical, and Service Staff.  To acknowledge student service above and beyond their academic studies, the Department has established the Student Outstanding Service Award.

The purpose of this award is to recognize the entomology undergraduate or graduate student who has excelled in providing service to the Department, College, and University or community-at-large during the previous academic year.

Eligibility
This award is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Entomology enrolled as full time students.  Previous award winners are not eligible.

Application and Supporting Documentation
Applications and nominations for 2008 must be submitted to the Department of Entomology’s Awards Committee by November 26, 2008.  The selection committee will be members of the awards committee who have not nominated an individual for the current competition.

Nomination / Application Packet
Nominations may be submitted by anyone familiar with the candidate’s contributions to the Department and/or community.  Self nominations are encouraged.  Nominations should include a narrative of the candidate’s significant contributions (2 pages max) that add to the quality of life in the workplace and/or the community’s appreciation of entomology, and demonstrate the nominee’s outstanding service and commitment.  Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Goes “above and beyond” the normal expectations by participating or assisting in Departmental activities, departmental/college/university committees, and outreach.
• Impacts the department/community by positive actions, without thought of personal publicity or gain.
• Demonstrates initiative and provides leadership within the Department or Purdue community.

Award
The winner of the award will receive an appropriately inscribed plaque and a cash award of $1000. The recipient’s name will also be added to the permanent plaque maintained within the department.
