NORA Oil and Gas Extraction Sub Council

The Oil and Gas Extraction sector comprised over 300,000 paid workers in 2005. These workers face risks that include motor vehicle crashes, overexertion, chemicals, and shift work. NIOSH recently began a program of work in this sector and formed a Sub Council in 2008.

A goal of the NORA Oil & Gas Extraction Sub Council is to identify the most salient needs of this diverse sector.  We seek to facilitate the most important research, understand the most effective intervention strategies, and learn how to implement those strategies to achieve sustained improvements in workplace practice.

Join the Sub Council as a Corresponding Member to keep informed of activities, provide input on issues to be discussed, and review draft documents. Some Corresponding Members may be asked to join workgroups on specific topics or to join as Members when openings arise. Contact the Coordinator of the NIOSH Oil & Gas Program with any question or comment or to volunteer.
