Alternative Fuel and Hybrid Vehicles Made Available 2006, Survey Data (Tables S1 – S7)
These tables represent the number of onroad alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and hybrid vehicles made available by both the original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket vehicle conversion facilities for 2006 and projected for 2007. These data include gasoline-electric and diesel-electric hybrids which are published separately from electric fuel type categories because they fall outside the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT92) definition of an AFV. The Department of Energy (DOE), which has EPACT92 implementation authority, ruled that gasoline- and diesel-electric hybrids are not “alternative fuel vehicles.” The source for these data is the Form EIA-886 Annual Survey of Alternative Fueled Vehicles.
Weight class definitions are as follows:
- Light Duty = 8,500 lbs or less Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
- Medium Duty = 8,501 – 26,000 lbs GVWR
- Heavy Duty = 26,001 lbs
and over GVWR
Fuel type acronyms are as follows:
- CNG = Compressed Natural Gas
- EVC = Electric
- E85 = Ethanol,
85 Percent
- HYD = Hydrogen
- LNG = Liquefied Natural Gas
- LPG = Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Propane)
- GAS = Gasoline-Electric Hybrid
- DSL = Diesel-Electric Hybrid
