Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 09/16/2008

   Compared to last week, steers under 750 lbs and heifers (all weights)
were 3.00-7.00 lower, with most 650-750 weight heifers 5.00-10.00 lower,
steers over 750 lbs 3.00-4.00 lower.  Exception a few scattered feather
and light weight steer calves under 400 lbs, of upper quality and mainly
uniform blacks, in spots were steady. Supply moderate. Demand light to
moderate.  The annual depressed October calf market, just as a year ago,
rolled around by mid-September, caused mainly by seasonal swings in
day/night temperatures effecting the start-up on far too many calves,
causing several orders to back out of the market somewhat until perhaps
after the first frost.  However, this-go round has a different feel to it
with uncertainties in the economy, along with the erratic stock market
causing most players to be concerned and a pinch shaky about what’s out
front.  Supply consisted of 49 percent steers, 9 percent bulls and 42
percent heifers.  Around 46 percent over 600 lbs.

   Steers: Medium and Large 1  300-400 lbs 120.00-134.00; 400-500 lbs
112.00-119.00; 500-600 lbs 102.50-113.00; 600-700 lbs 103.00-111.50,
soft calves 97.50-105.00; 700-800 lbs 100.00-104.25, few calves 98.00-
101.00; few 825-900 lbs 99.00-100.00.  Medium and Large 1-2  couple lots
38 head 295-325 lbs 130.00-136.00; 385-450 lbs 113.00-116.00; 450-500 lbs
104.00-109.00; 500-600 lbs 99.50-111.00; few 600-700 lbs 104.00-105.50;
700-800 lbs 99.00-103.50; several 800-860 lbs 100.00-101.00.  Medium and
Large 2  265-300 lbs 100.00-101.00; pkg 300 lbs thin 127.00; 400-500 lbs
