Engineering Educators Receive Prestigious Gordon Prize
2006 prize recognizes development of new curriculum that addresses real-world industry needs

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has awarded the prestigious Bernard M. Gordon Prize to developers of the Learning Factory program, a curriculum that challenges teams of engineering students to confront actual technology needs facing industry today.
Each year, NAE awards the $500,000 prize to recognize innovation in engineering and technology education. Along with NAE's $500,000 Charles Stark Draper prize, the two are among the highest engineering honors.
National Science Foundation (NSF) awardees John S. Lamancusa of Pennsylvania State University, Lueny Morell of Hewlett-Packard, Allen L. Soyster of Northeastern University and Jose Zayas-Castro of University of South Florida (USF), and their colleague Jens Jorgenson, professor emeritus at the University of Washington, will receive Gordon Prize at a gala dinner in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 21.
NSF has supported the Learning Factory program for almost a decade through grants from the Division of Engineering Education and Centers and Division of Design and Manufacturing Innovation in the Engineering Directorate. Details for these NSF awards are linked below.
