At the US Department of State, she led interagency efforts culminating in the State Department’s first U.S. International Strategy on HIV/AIDS. Prior to joining NIEHS, Dr. Hrynkow served as Senior Advisor, United Nations Foundation, where she focused on energy policy and climate change as related to human health.

Dr. Hrynkow received her B.A. in Biology from Rhode Island College and her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut. She completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Oslo, Norway in the field of developmental neurobiology. She serves on numerous Boards and Advisory Groups, including the Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research and Medicine; the AAAS Committee on Science, Engineering and Public Policy; and the Society for Neuroscience International Affairs Committee.
