Our Mission

As the State’s lead economic agency, the Kansas Department of Commerce (Commerce) has a clear mission: to empower individuals, businesses, and communities to realize prosperity in Kansas. To this end, Commerce comprises a variety of programs and services that create jobs, attract new investment, provide workforce training, encourage community development, and sell the state as a wonderful place to travel, live, and do business. These programs are administered by a dynamic staff that is dedicated to improving the quality of life of all Kansans.

Organizational Structure

Commerce delivers its programs through the following divisions: Agriculture Marketing, Business Development, Community Development, Trade Development, Travel & Tourism, and Workforce Services. A seventh division, Operations, ensures that the other six divisions have the necessary resources to provide quality services. While the existence of separate divisions allows staff members to become specialists in their fields, collaboration between the entities allows us to best administer our programs and serve our customers.
