Sustainable Community Food Systems

Research and information to help strengthen connections between farmers, consumers and communities.

Local Food Systems Symposium - December 2008

In 2006 and 2007, SAREP funded new regional food systems projects throughout California. Join us in discussing how these and other innovative projects create partnerships and marketing opportunities between consumers, distributors and producers in rural and urban areas. We will share challenges, lessons learned, and tools developed by these and other food systems enterprises.

What is a sustainable community food system?

Direct Marketing

Resources and case studies for farmers, educators and specialists regarding direct marketing through farmers markets, value added, restaurants. Continue

Farm-to-School

Farm-to-School is a nationwide movement that connects local farmers who can provide fresh, seasonal produce with school food services for healthier school lunches. Continue

Farm to Institution

Food service operations in a growing number of colleges, universities, hospitals, prisons, corporate cafeterias and other institutions are developing “locally grown,” “sustainable,” and organic procurement practices and policies. Continue
