Advanced Soils

This course will cover soil development, describing and classifying soils, identifying soil hydrology and identifying hydric soils.  The majority of the course will be held in various field locations using concepts taught in class. 

Soils Update

Required for all certified conservation planners or individuals seeking this certification.  Agenda will include FOTG, Soils Data Mart, and Web Soil Survey.  Earn four Continuing education Units, this is a one day session.

Water

Basic Wetland Identification

This interagency course provides basic instruction for those with little or no training/experience in wetland identification.  The course will cover hydric soils, hydrology and basic vegetation relating to wetlands, wetland functions and values and their significance.  There will be classroom and field instruction. 

Emergency Watershed Program Training

One day session in Central Maine.  Agenda includes major changes in program and Damage Survey Reports and Environmental Compliance.

Wetlands Restoration & Advanced Delineation

This interagency course provides instruction for those involved in the creation, restoration or enhancement of wetland systems.  The course will be field oriented.  Topics include the evaluation of soils, topography, wetland structure and function vegetation selection.

Plants

Establishing Native Warm Season Grasses

A one day field course, sponsored by the Hugh Hammond Bennett Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, on techniques for establishing native warm-season grasses for early-succession wildlife habitat and grazing systems. Focuses on plant selection, benefits, seedbed preparation, planters and their set-up/calibration, and plant management. 

Boot Camp II - Agronomy Tract

This is a follow up to the Pennsylvania Boot Camp I and is designed for employees with 1 to 2 years of service.  This course focuses on the agronomic issues involved in conservation planning in Pennsylvania.

Plant Identification

This course will cover a broad range of topics related to plant Identification for use in on-site wetland identification and delineation.  Location - Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge, Kent County, MD. 

Summer Agronomy School

This course is sponsored by Pennsylvania State University and NRCS and is designed for conservation planners and technicians.  The course provides the participants with the latest advances in in the field of agronomy.

Transition to No-till

This course is sponsored by Pennsylvania State University and NRCS and is designed for conservation planners, agronomist and Technical Service Providers.  The course provides the participants with the knowledge to assist landowners in transitioning from clean tilled row crops to no-till.

Wildlife/Forestry Training

Required for all certified conservation planners or individuals seeking this certification.  Agenda will include Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Procedures. No "Hits" How to Handle, Code 645 vs. 647, Grassland HEP, Aroostook - priority Wildlife Concerns, WHDPs, How to Turn a Forest Management Plan into a Conservation plan, invasive plant identification and control, and riparian buffer design and installation.  earn four Continuing education units.  This is a three day session offered on two dates and will be offered in Central maine:

Engineering

Boot Camp II - Engineering Tract

This is a follow up to the Pennsylvania Boot Camp I and is designed for employees with 1 to 2 years of service.  This course focuses on the engineering issues involved in conservation planning in Pennsylvania.

Engineering Update

Annual engineering training for all field office and technical employees.  Sessions cover identified engineering needs for field offices.  Individuals certified in CNMP-Land Treatment Element or individuals seeking this certification can also earn four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for CNMP-Land Treatment Element by attending any of these sessions.  No other separate training will be provided for earning Land treatment Element CEUs.  This is a one day session offered.

Red Water Blues II

Field Days across the state of Alabama to demonstrate the use of erosion and sediment control products. 

Ponds 101

A course for new NRCS employees in Alabama to learn the basics of pond survey and design.

Conservation Planning

Basics of Conservation Planning

A two-week course (50% classroom, 50% field exercises) for NRCS and Partnership staff seeking Certified Conservation Planner Certification. The two week course steps through the planning process in order, with field exercises on CPA-52, determining client objectives, developing alternatives, and evaluation options. Specific field training in resource disciplines: soils, engineering, grazing, biology, agronomy, soil quality, etc. Culminates in students developing their own plan in real farm setting. This course has been held annually for over 30 years.

Boot Camp I

This is an introductory course for all employees with less that one year of service.   The participants will be introduced to the job of resource conservation planning focusing on the resource concerns in Pennsylvania.

CNMP - Manure and Wastewater Handling and Storage Element Update

Required for all individuals certified in CNMP - Manure and Wastewater Handling and Storage Element or individuals seeking this certification.  Earn four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for CNMP - Manure and Wastewater Handling and Storage Element. 

CNMP - Nutrient Management Element Update

Required for all individuals certified in CNMP - Nutrient Management Element or individuals seeking this certification.  Earn four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for CNMP - Nutrient Management Element. 

Conservation Planning Certification

This course is designed for any individual seeking to become a certified conservation planner in Pennsylvania.  The course satisfies Part 2 of the conservation planning training.

Conservation Planning, Part II

The course satisfies Part 2 of the conservation planning training.  Participants must complete Conservation Planning, Part I as a prerequisite to attending the course. 

Conservation Planning, Phase III

Writing conservation plans. 

Conservation Planning Update

Required for all certified conservation planners or individuals seeking this certification.  Agenda will include state level CPA-52, ESA, Conservation plan Check List, refresher on historic preservation compliance in conservation planning, and wetland determinations AD-1026 process.  Earn four Continuing education Units.  This is a one day session.

Nutrient Management

A three-day course on all facets of nutrient management planning, including NRCS 590 standard, permit requirements, documentation, record keeping, nutrient budgeting, etc. This course is taught by NC State University and is a requirement for North Carolina Nutrient Management/Waste Utilization Technical Specialist designation. Pest Management Considerations in Conservation Planning

This workshop fulfills the requirements of Module 7 of the NRCS course Nutrient and Pest Management Considerations in Conservation Planning
