Since 1996 the SSL has been hosting an Old Timey Seed Swap at Agrarian Connections Farm near the small town of Crawford in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. The purpose of these seed swaps is to facilitate networking among gardeners and farmers in the Southeast who grow heirloom plants with the hope that the exchange of knowledge, seeds, and enthusiasm will help toward the preservation of unique southern heirloom plant varieties. In addition to swapping many of our favorite garden varieties, the Old Timey Seed Swap is also a good excuse to come out and enjoy the Georgia springtime weather and to eat barbecue and listen to bluegrass music. The 11th Annual Southern SSL Seed Swap
APRIL 26, 2008
Agrarian Connections Farm
3-8PM

The 2008 Southern Seed Legacy Seed Swap was once again a booming success. For the second year in a row, more than 120 seed savers have made the trek from all over the South to Agrarian Connections farm near Crawford , Georgia . The rain down pour at the start of the swap did nothing to dampen spirits; in fact, it just energized us.

This year, Mr. Justin Pitts came from Mississippi to exchange stories and seeds from his pineywood region. From Tennessee , came Mr. James Culpepper bearing great diversity and quantities of seeds from the mountains. And from South Carolina came our 2008 Seed Saver of the Year, Mr. Rodger Winn and his wife. Music was provided by Roughbark Candy Roaster Band and the barbeque was prepared by generous volunteers of the Department of Anthropology.
