Department of Agriculture

To Promote and Protect

The goal of the Madera County Department of Agriculture is to promote and protect the agricultural industry of Madera County. Our office is dedicated to protecting California agriculture from the spread of destructive pests, promoting the safe and responsible use of pesticides to allow for the protection of crops, and protecting human health and the environment. Programs administered by this office include: Pesticide Use Enforcement; Pest Prevention; Pest Management; Nursery and Seed Inspection; Fruit, Vegetable, and Egg Quality Control; Organic and Certified Producer Programs; Apiary Inspection; and Crop Statistics.

The Weights and Measures Division is responsible for consumer protection, as well as merchant protection, through the regulation of all weight or measuring devices used in commercial transactions. This includes, but is not limited to: gas pumps, grocery store scales, jewelry scales, propane meters, and water dispensers. Other duties include inspection of packaged goods for proper labeling and accurate quantity, undercover purchases to test scanner error and overcharging, as well as overseeing weighmasters.

Directions From the South:
Take Hwy 99 North to Madera and exit at 145/Madera Avenue. Take the left fork of the ramp and turn left onto 145/Madera Avenue. Continue on Madera Ave over the freeway and through the Olive Ave intersection, move into the right lane. Turn right onto Dunham and then an immediate right into the fenced parking behind the red brick building.

Directions From the North
Take Hwy 99 South to Madera and take the 145/Firebaugh/Kerman exit. Turn left onto Olive at the stoplight. At the next light turn right onto 145/Madera Avenue. Turn right onto Dunham and then an immediate right into the fenced parking behind the red brick building.

Directions From Hwy 41
Take Hwy 41 South towards Fresno. Veer right onto Hwy 145 towards Madera. Continue on Hwy 145 into Madera, cross over Railroad tracks and turn Left at light onto Gateway Drive. Turn right onto 145/Madera Avenue. Continue on Madera Ave over the freeway and through the Olive Ave intersection, move into the right lane. Turn right onto Dunham and then an immediate right into the fenced parking behind the red brick building.
