National IHC Operations Guide
NPS Fire Use Module Operations Guide

The Southern Area is home to four Interagency Hotshot Crews (IHCs):

The Asheville Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC) program, initiated in 1989, is one of only three hotshot programs in the nation specifically designed to develop future fireline supervisors. The Asheville IHC is hosted by the National Forests in North Carolina, and is based out of Asheville, NC. The Crew Superintendent is Steve Little. The program is operational from January through May. The majority of assignments are in the southeast for suppression and prescribed burning, but the crew has been assigned to other geographic areas numerous times.

The Augusta IHC, established in 2001, is hosted by the George Washington/Jefferson National Forest in Virginia, and is based out of Augusta Springs, VA. The Crew Superintendent is Oscar Montijo. The crew is generally available from the first week of March through the first week of September.

The Cherokee IHC is hosted by the Cherokee National Forest, and is based out of Unicoi, TN. The Crew Superintendent is Dennis Trentham. The crew is generally available from mid-March through early June, and again from late July through late November.

The Jackson IHC is sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management, and is based out of Jackson, MS. The Crew Superintendent is Lamar Lidell. For 2005, the crew is available from June 7th to October 29th.
