Volunteers Gear Up: ‘Day of Service for Military'

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2009 - Operation Gratitude, a troop-support group, is joining forces with Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and thousands of volunteers from across the country on Jan. 19’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday to assemble care kits for servicemembers deployed overseas.

HEIDELBERG, Jan. 13, 2009 - Rosella Glenn doesn't live like most Army wives. She wakes up in the morning and checks to see if the lights turn on. If the heat has gone out again she decides whether to drain the radiators. She tries the water to see if it's working and clean enough to take a shower.

Servicemembers Assist Following Earthquake

SAN JOSE, Jan. 12, 2009 - Thirty-four American servicemembers and four helicopters from Honduras-based Joint Task Force-Bravo deployed to Costa Rica Jan. 10 to assist with disaster response efforts in areas affected by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake near San Jose.

Secretary of Defense Employer Support Award

ARLINGTON, Dec. 19, 2008 - Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, has opened the nomination season for the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. National Guard and Reserve members and their families are eligible and encouraged to nominate employers who have gone above and beyond in their support of military employees.
